5 benefits of reading to your child
Reading to your child(ren) is both fun ánd valuable, as it has a lot of benefits- not in the least in the developmental area. But there’s more! We’ve rounded up five benefits of reading to your child:
1: cognitive development
Reading to your child contributes to the cognitive development; it helps children to improve their learning skills, for which they will definitely thank you later! Being read to will also improve their comprehension; children will learn a lot about nice and interesting subjects and therefore understand more complex matters at an older age.

5: imagination
Reading to your child is a great way to increase your child’s imagination. By empathizing with the character(s) in a story they create an image of things they have never seen before: what did a dinosaur really look like? What’s it like to be an astronaut? Imagination in its purest form!
2: social and emotional development
Another benefit of reading to your child is the fact that the social and emotional development will be encouraged. The characters in children’s books will temporarily become your child’s best friends and a good example at that, too! Your child(ren) will be positively impacted by these characters’ social and communication skills and this will be of value in your daily interaction as well.
3: language development
Reading to your children will instantly teach them so many new words in a relaxed and playful way- not boring at all! It’s also of importance in the field of sentence structure; by reading together your child learns how to form sentences. Expect many questions now that your kid starts playing with words! Which is great, as together you are actively working on his or her language development.
4: quality time
Cliché but true: time does fly. Before you know it, your kid(s) will spend more time with friends, at the playground and so on. Reading is the perfect way to spend time together; cozy up right before bedtime for some quality time!
